Director's Update

Feb. 19, 2019

Dear HNP Families,

We hope everyone had a nice and restful long weekend!  Tomorrow and Wednesday, the 20th, Lifetouch will be here to take Spring Photos.  The children will have FREE DRESS on both days-Spring outfits!  Purchasing the Spring Photos are optional.  However, Lifetouch does a wonderful job of providing a nice Spring backdrop for those Easter photos for the relatives.  You will receive a draft photo package within weeks.  Unfortunately, there is not a make-up day for Spring Photos.  We are in still in need of some parent volunteers to help bring the students to the photographers.  Please contact me asap if you can assist.  We need some parents tomorrow and Wednesday morning from 8:30-11:15 am.

I have enclosed the flyers for the upcoming Grandparents' Day (2/28) and St. Patrick's Day Dinner/Dance (3/2).  Both events should be great fun and both help support the Holy Name Community.  We look forward to seeing everyone there!  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Have a wonderful week!

Blessings,
Alice & the Staff

Dear HNP Families,

Happy Lunar New Year!  The children had so much fun parading through the "big school" last week with their "dragon parade" and costumes.  Thank you RF staff for organizing the joyful parade!

This week, we will celebrate Valentine's Day!  There will be FREE DRESS on Thursday, Feb. 14th!   Please have your child wear something RED!  Thank you Room Parents for organizing the class parties.  Again, please do NOT label the Valentine's cards.  We will distribute them equally among the students.  We have 33 BF students, 22 RF Srs, and 18 RF Jrs.

Today, Feb. 10th is Father Arnold's birthday.  During the week, the preschool students will wish Father Arnold a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Father Arnold's vision has always been to have the church, elementary school and the preschool be a unified parish community.  Thank you all for supporting this vision!

Lastly, the preschool will be closed next Monday, Feb. 18th for President's Day.  On Tues. & Weds, Feb. 19th & 20th, Lifetouch will be here taking Spring Photos.  We will need parent volunteers to help bring the students to the photographers.  Please contact your Room Parent if you can volunteer that morning (8:15 am-11:15 am).

Have a blessed week!  Happy Valentines!

Blessings,
Alice & the Staff

Dear HNP Families,

We thank our parent and SF Fire Fighter Phillip Roliz (Anais-RF-Jr.) for providing our students with a fire safety presentation on Tuesday, Jan. 15th from 10:00-11:00 am  The children are very excited to hear the duties of a fire fighter and of course, they will love to see the uniform and all the equipment that a fire fighter uses!  Thank you Phillip!

If you would like to do a presentation for our students (your occupation, special interests, etc.), please inform your child's teachers.  The students love seeing our community members and how they can help and educate us!

We welcomed back our Music Teacher, Ms. Gay last week!  She is doing well and will be teaching the Red Fish for the time being.  The Blue Fish started their Tumbling  and Movement  classes last week as well. Thank you Ms. Sabrina for bringing your dance experience into our program!

The preschool is invited to join the elementary school in Grandparents' Day on Thursday, Feb. 28th.  Thank you Noreen  McCullagh (Grace-RF, Banan-BF) for including us!  I have attached the forms.

Lastly, we thank Lisa Hunt (Ethan-RF), her board members Sophie (Jack-RF), Jeff (Jacob-RF), Juliet ( Rocco-RF) and Will (Skylar) and the RF & BF room parents-Meghan (Quinn-RF), Nicole (Liam-RF), Karen (Rian-BF) and Krista (Charlotte-BF) as they embark on implementing a new Parent Board.  This will certainly improve our preschool communication and parent and community involvement.  Our staff members are excited to meet all the parents at the Parent Board Meeting on Jan. 31st.  Just a gentle reminder that all Catholic Schools within our Archdiocese will be off the next day, Friday, Feb. 1st to attend their Professional Development Workshops.  Our preschool will be closed as our staff attends our workshop at Holy Angels.  Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you parents for bringing in cookies and drinks for the children after the performance.  Thank you in advance also to the parent volunteers that will help with the set-up, clean-up in the gym and help with changing the children.  We couldn't pull this off without your help!

Please note that all Gingerbread House entries must be submitted by Tuesday, Dec. 11th.  The winners will be announced at the performance.

Lastly, Friday will be pajama day!  We will be decorating Christmas cookies in the gym in the morning with the big school.

Nov. 20, 2018

Dear HNP Families,

We hope everyone is taking care of themselves and their families this weekend-drinking lots of fluids and staying indoors.  Thank you for your understanding over the abrupt closure of the preschool last Friday.  The air quality was extremely bad that day, so in hindsight, it was a wise decision.

This week, we celebrate Thanksgiving!  Thank you to the families bringing in food for our potluck on Wednesday, @ 11:15 am.  If you can help with the set-up or clean-up, that would be very much appreciated.  Please inform the RF/ BF staff if you plan to help.  Remember that the preschool will close at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 21st.

Thank you to the BF parents that attended their Parent-Teacher Conferences last week.  The BF staff enjoyed meeting you and partnering with you.

Lastly, we have sad news to share-Ms. Natalie Cirigliano, the principal of the elementary school, will not be returning for the 2019-2020 school year.  She has accepted a position to be the head of school at Mercy High School, Burlingame for the fall, 2019-2020.  Besides having attended Mercy, Burlingame, Natalie and her husband recently purchased a home in San Mateo. Natalie saw these signs as a calling for her to be closer to her roots.  We will miss Natalie!   She was a huge fan of our preschool!    I know you join me in thanking her for all the wonderful improvements she brought to Holy Name School and the community and wish her much success in her bright future.  Natalie will fulfill her principal term through June, 2019.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and safe travels to those who are traveling during this holiday.  We are so grateful for our wonderful preschool families!  You are the best!

Blessings,
Alice & the Staff

Sept. 24, 2018,

Dear HNP Families,

Thank you to the families that attended the Spirit Mass on Sunday!  We loved seeing all our preschool students and families at the Mass!

This Friday and next Friday, all our new students will be screened by the Bay Area Speech Pathology Studio.  As with our annual vision screening (Spring), this screening aids our preschool staff with their assessments of your students when we approach our Parent-Teacher Conferences in November.  The Preschool will pay for this twenty minute screening.  I have attached a letter from Amanda Root, the owner and primary speech pathologist at BASP.  Having an early speech screening is a wonderful tool for both parents and teachers to see how we can best serve your child.

It is with much sadness that we announce that Ms. Joy will be leaving the BF room.  Her last day will be this Friday, Sept. 28th.  Ms. Joy's commute and personal reasons were the deciding factors for her.  We wish Ms. Joy much success in the future!

We will have a new teacher in the BF room starting Oct. 8th.  Ms. Sandy is a graduate of UC Davis with degrees in both Psychology and Chinese.  She is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.  She will be leaving her position at Stanford University and will be joining us soon!

Dear HNP Families,

Thank you all for attending our Back to School Night!  The staff enjoyed meeting everyone!  We hope you were able to meet your child's teachers and learn about your child's activities in the classroom.  We hope to continue our relationship with you throughout the year.  Research has shown that a good working relationship between teachers and parents is important for your child's academic success as well as understanding your child's unique strengths, interests and talents as learning patterns emerge.

Thank you to our Parent Committee for presenting the wonderful events happening soon!  Please join the HN Preschool Parent Group on FB!  There are awesome photos of your children there along with vital dates and information about upcoming parent committee meetings and school events.

This week, we welcome two USF interns into our classrooms.  Ms. Amanda (RF) and Ms. Alex (BF) are both USF  seniors who are volunteering at our preschool this fall.  Both are majoring in Psychology.  Welcome Ms. Amanda and Ms. Alex!
