The Joy of Reading

Holy Name School's bright and cheerful Library is a warm and cozy spot for children to pick up a book and enjoy the simple joy of reading. Every week kindergarten to sixth grade students check out a book for enjoyment or to support a school assignment. They listen to stories and are also encouraged to read out loud to earn a bookmark.
Our Library has a good sized fiction and non-fiction section, award winners, picture books, classics, poetry and sports section. In the last few years the Library has grown to add a large amount of current titles thanks to fundraising from the Scholastic Book Fair, Holy Name Birthday Book Club, author visits, and used book sales. The Library's primary goal is to acquire as many new and current books as possible because children love to find out what's fresh and exciting in the world of books!

Author visits are memorable highlights for students because they can meet a professional writer face to face and get a special autographed book. Authors such as Oliver Chin, Dean Pitchford and S.S Taylor have inspired students in various grades at Holy Name School.

Giving is also an important part of the Library. Periodically, older books get donated to local book charities. During Christmas time a special fundraiser is held called the "Library Giving Tree." A Christmas Tree stands in the Library and if students want to donate a new hardcover book, the Christmas Tree will give the child a gift back to show thanks for the generous donation.

Our Library was dedicated in the name of our beloved teacher, Miss Linda McCausland, who taught our younger children at Holy Name School for 33 years before she passed away in 2010.  This beautiful room reminds us of Miss McCausland's love for life and love of learning.
