Physical Education

Ms. Murphy, teacher

Physical Education

My name is Nora Murphy. This is my fourth year as the Physical Education teacher, my 16th here at Holy Name School! I was the director of the Extended Care Program. I received my bachelor's degree and teaching credential from SF State University.

Total hours of PE each week
     Kindergarten: 2 hours
     1st : 1 1/2 hours
     2nd – 8th grade: 1 hour

Physical Education Program
• Provides opportunities for structured, comprehensive physical activity
• Students learn essential physical, mental, spiritual and social skills that promote lifelong movement and participation in physical activity programs.
• Incorporated into the program are cooperative games, sports skills, rhythmic activities, and dance.

Grading:
• Assessment/evaluation is carried out after each unit of work / lesson intended.
• Effort is the most important criteria for grading.

Physical education is not about coaching and/or sports exclusively. Physical education is about providing structured programs in which everyone gets a chance to participate and to aid students in achieving their fullest potential through the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to attain healthy levels of well-being and to maintain active lifestyles throughout the lifespan. Sports are an important component of a school community. It is NOT the focus of our PE program.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the program or with any other comments or concerns.
